WEP commences implementation of her project: Connecting Women and Youth in Violent Extremist Prone Areas Through Empowerment and Skills Acquisition

Violent extremism is a relatively new phenomenon in Nigeria as compared to some Middle East countries, and it has gained popularity just recently. It all started in North Eastern part of the country where an agitated group, Boko Haram started opposing the authority of the government. They started out using den guns and machetes to confront local authorities but suddenly graduated to using sophisticated weapons and detonating highly lethal bombs.
